The initial stages of a Split Front typically have the characteristics of a Kata an Ana a Kata Cold Front. As the jet streak approaches the front from behind, different air masses ara transported: On the cyclonic side it is dry stratospheric dry tropospheric moist tropospheric dry stratospheric and on the anticyclonic side it is dry stratospheric dry tropospheric moist tropospheric dry tropospheric air. In the area behind the frontal cloud band both air streams are rising sinking behaving differently behaving differently , in the area above the frontal cloud both air streams are rising sinking behaving differently behaving differently . When the jet streak crosses the frontal cloud band enhancement of convection does not take place takes place in the right entrance region takes place in the left exit region takes place in the left exit region . Relative streams, characterising the movement of the different air masses, show a movement across both cloud parts of the Split Front a splitting in the region of the low cloud part a splitting in the high cloud part a splitting in the region of the low cloud part in the area of the frontal cloud band.
