The thickness of the Fog and Stratus layer can be from some tens of meters to 1-1,5 km. The height of the inversion shows does not show shows the height of the fog layer. Typically there is moisture at the lower levels but dry above. If there is another cloud layer above the fog one can see another moist dry moist layer above the Fog and Stratus.
