Geophysics
The Department of Geophysics is involved on a continuous basis in the following research tasks:
- Earthquake hazard investigation
- Historical earthquakes
- Geomagnetism and space weather, paleomagnetism, rock magnetism, biomagnetism
- Permafrost
- and Archeoprospections
Our group advises the Federal Ministry for International and European Affairs regarding the detection of nuclear tests, as well as informing governmental agencies on developing scenarios in case of devastating earthquakes worldwide.
In addition, the Conrad Observatory serves as a base for many international and national research tasks, combining all geophysical disciplines.
