Although valuable support came from a number of formal research projects, the core basis of HISTALP is an informal cooperation of a greater number of partners in the region. Apart from some longterm series which could be downloaded from NOAA’s NCDC, most of the series were provided by their original producers or by their succession organisations. These are the national meteorological and hydrometeorological services of the region as well as subnational or regional organisations as well as persons or institutes in charge of single sites even.
Being close to the original data producers provides the advantage to be near to historic metadata – a valuable support for homogenizing. As the greater part of HISTALP series and even less their metadata are not exchanged routinely by the WMO-based CLIMAT-mechanism, also updating is only possible thanks to the informal cooperation of the ZAMG-HISTALP team with a community which may best be described as “HISTALP-correspondents”. Apart from data and metadata provision they also provided general information and discussions on general solutions for problems arising in dataset management, data processing, and other related topics.
We greatly acknowledge their contributions to our common goal and we want to express our gratitude through the following “list of fame”.
